In this game, 8.32 to go in the 2nd quarter. My tactics are set so that any 4th down within 35 yards to go, I kick a field goal. I'm on the opponent's 18 yard line, and I punt. WTF?

In most of the cases there were some incorrect playbook settings causing those situations.
Have you tried to use the playbook checker to possibly find the 'wrong' playbook rule?

You also need to know that the playbook settings and the game settings list the field goal distance differently. The playbook lists the distance of the line of scrimmage to the goal line. However, I suspect you are talking about the field goal settings in the game settings. There the field goal distance is the total distance. This assumes the kick is made 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage, plus the goal posts are 10 yards beyond the goal line. This means that a kick where the line of scrimmage is the 18 yard line would have a total distance of 7 + 18 + 10 = 35 yards. Since your settings say less than 35 yards, your team punts instead.

You can change the setting to 50 yards if you are indeed referring to the game settings, and then field goals will be attempted when the line of scrimmage is less than 33 yards.

I see your point, but 18+7=25, and I'm set to 35

So I think I found the issue....

Basically for some reason my playbook was completely blank for the offence. Not sure how it happened, but it did. So when I just used the playbook checker on 4th down, 3 yard line... no rule found.

However, in the overall settings for the game... 35 yards or less to go, I should have kicked the field goal. Correct no? If no rule found, overall settings take over, surely?

Yet I looked at my last game of the season... 1st quarter, 4th down, opponent's 23 yard line... Punt.

Same tactics used on a game 4 games earlier (playbook blank), 1st quarter on opponent's 8 yard line... field goal.

You are right, if no playbook rule is found for a specific situation the general game settings are used (or maybe I should say 'should be used) ;-)

Right now I can't say why this seems to be not working for you, Pete will have to take a deeper look at the code I guess.

Well, number one, I need to sort my sh*t out and make sure I'm not using a blank playbook.

But yes, the overall settings are there for a reason, in case the playbook does not have a rule, surely?

And you are sure you did not "clear" your playbook by yourself?

I probably did by accident, but that's not the point phil. The point is, if I understand this correctly, if there is no rule in the playbook for a specific play, then the overall settings for the game should take over. So why when I'm within 25 yards of their goal, and I'm set to kick a field goal from under 35, why am I punting?
