Something curious happened yesterday, as the Devil Dolphins not only beat the reigning champ of the AC conference in a friendly game, but even shut them out 31:0
That continues a pleasant streak of two wins against human competition in this past week that otherwise only had dysfunctional opponents to offer. The coming league meetings will continue that trend, with the Orcinus Orca visiting the Devil Dolphins today, and a trip to the Route 66 Raiders next Thursday after an early bye-week. After that the Dolphins will have their third of overall six league meetings against human led franchises. They are 1–1 in such games currently and have done fairly well in both games. But they will meet the BobBoy Magpies, and despite the Dolphins having won a friendly game in the preseason the experience and team structure of the Magpies make them the clear favorite of this encounter. Half of the season is done, we start into the back half of the schedule today. As mentioned before, the Devil Dolphins have overall 6 games against human led competition this season, and after being halfway through these games we are 1–2. Of course we lost to the Magpies in week 7. We even lost 3 times to them over the course of one week, due to two friendlies before meeting them in the league, with the latter curiously being the closest one of these losses.
Now we still have our first regular season meeting with the Michigan Weasel Traders coming up next Tuesday, followed by another encounter with the Long Island Islanders on Saturday of next week. Especially the game against the Islanders will have heavy playoff implications, as they currently have the same record as us. And then we'll have our second match-up with the Litany Zone in Week 15. At home. Maybe we'll be able to really annoy them this time

It's our second to last game of the regular season against human competition, and we meet again with the Long Island Islanders. We met them every season since S67, and they have been a great measuring stick for us to see where we stand in comparison to the other members of this league. And we played (and won) our first playoff game against them.
As I mentioned before, this game has heavy playoff implications, as the winner will be seed #5, holding a 3 game lead over seed #7, while the loser will be #6 and only 2 games up... with still 4 games to play this season. A bit frightening: The Islanders do have the stronger schedule to close out, so they will be very interested to win this one today

Dang, it should not have only been a bit frightening that the Islanders may come in more prepared. The Offense of the Devil Dolphins seemed to sleepwalk through the game, only getting 16 First Downs overall and failing to score at all in the second half.
That does not push hopes for todays match-up against the Litany Zone, of course. We may have been able to stop them from scoring many points on us in the first game of the season, but we were not able to score many on them, too. In the overall scheme of things the Devil Dolphins seem to have more trouble moving the ball than they had last season, so either the OC has to find solutions or they just need to find their mojo again.
