Welcome to Season 72 in the Broncos league of RZC

The Devil Dolphins have a tough schedule this season, as we have to play 5 of 7 teams that were with us in the Divisional Playoff round of last postseason and the upstart PeePee who has been a tough opponent for us ever since they entered the league.

Beyond that we welcome a new team in the AC East, the Golds Rams. Hopefully they stay a little longer to become another worthy opponent

Have a good season, everyone

Tomorrow is the first day of the S72 Draft.

We'll be picking at 26, 58 and 90, but hopes are up to get at least one or two of the players that we have at the top of our board.

Our need is some young blood for the defensive backfield. A new running back or an offensive line guy would be neat, too.

We'll wait and see

We hope everyone had a good draft?

Ours went well. It is always a bit sad to see the really good players at the top of our board go to dysfunctional teams, especially in the first round. But we all players from the top 5 on our board for every day nonetheless, and thus were able to fill some spots on the roster on positions with future vacancies. All three players have the time to grow, at least for 2 seasons, before they will be truly needed, and they all have the basics to become great players:

Thomas Jenner, defensive backfield – Round 1, draft order #5 – 19yo with a lot of talent, an exceptional wingspan and blazing speed, still needs more STR and some improvement on AGI, FOO and CAT

Zahor Mbanefo, defensive backfield – Round 2, draft order #1 – former Track Star player, 23yo, already fully developed at STR and SPE and really intelligent, but with a lot room for improvement on AGI, FOO and CAT

Gerhard Seidel, ballcarrier – Round 3, draft order #2 – 23yo pretty intelligent back with great Track Star speed, Long Carrying trait and 4* talent, will probably start as a kick returner… still needs some FOO to contribute behind the O-Line

All of them will be getting playing time in today’s upcoming third preseason game against PeePee at home. But maybe not as much, as this game will also be a small test for the first string players, as the start of the season for the Devil Dolphins is tough and we will be put to a test right from the start. Therefore these preseason game will need to serve as final test to see where the squad stands… as the other two preseason-games showed very little to be sure of that.

The first one at the Blue Bunnies, a re-match of last seasons Divisional round match-up, was quite clear in its outcome due to a sensational performance of the defense once again. The second game at the Musk Oxes we got it the other way around, as THEIR defense took the ball away 5 times to score TDs with or immediately after. On the plus side: Even in this game our defense played sensational, as they only allowed 2 FGs when they were playing. It was literally the offense who scored more points against them than for them.

And that’s the most challenging part still: to find a way to make the offense more efficient over a longer stretch of games. They showed glimpses in the last season, but against sophisticated defenses they tended to fa l t e r also… or not get going at all sometimes. That really has to change…

… and if it will, the Devil Dolphins have to be dealt with again this season

Good luck for the start of the season for everyone

The Devil Dolphins welcome the Superbowl Champ at their home, which may be the toughest test of them to start the season. And upcoming in week 3 we have a visit at the Consumers scheduled. Let's see if we can manage to have a positive record after the first three weeks

A little sad are we to see that the Litany Zone chose to change the Division in the Preseason, now residing in the AC North. The path to the very first home playoff game in franchise history is now wide open for us, too, yes, but we thoroughly enjoyed the competition in the East and really thought about also changing the division... not to the AC North, too, but to another one where only one team resides. Maybe we'll do that next offseason... for now we will fight with the new teams in the AC East, the Golds Rams and Sierra Nevada, for the Crown

Geez, today's game against the Guinness Consumers was so close. But we lost nonetheless, and the offense again could not get going. 8 First Downs are a testament of cluelessness, and I have no idea what to change. We try to attack the very same defensive formation with pass and rush, but it does not work either way. All we get is "no gain" or "incomplete".

It is a headscratcher...

Long time no words from the Devil Dolphins facility, as life has been quite challenging outside of the football world. And this will be a brief one, too, just a small u p d a t e of what's going on:

The first half of the season has been ok. We had losses against the White Apes and a really close one against the Creators team, 3 games against not properly led teams and 3 wins against teams with new managers, which left us with a record of 2–6 at the halfway point of the season and #2 in the division behind the Golds Rams. Not exactly what we were looking for, but hey... we wanted competition in the division and we got it.

Especially the Golds Rams seem to have picked up the game pretty fast, as they were able to win against Pee Pee on the last game day. Sadly the manager has not been online for 8 days now, hopefully that does not mean he already quit again.

However: We're now in a stretch of games against teams with proper management. We had an ugly win against the Blue Bunnies in week 11, in week 13 we meet with the Golds Rams again. In between, today, is the most challenging match-up since week 3, as we face the BobBoy Magpies again. Hopefully the intense training that the squad had to go through these past weeks helped to get the team a bit more competitive today, maybe to at least be able to score more than a FG, like it was the case in the last two encounters.

After that we'll have the aforementioned Pee Pee still upcoming, and to close out the season we'll visit division opponent Sierra Nevada. Now that we were able to get to #1 in the division with the win over the Bunnies we want to defend this seeding... and reward ourselves with the first playoff homegame in franchise history.

The management of the Musk Ox wants to offer apologies to our fans & to RZC in general. Billed as the Match Of The Day in front of a home town crowd we fell spectacularly short of fulfilling expectations.
Our veteran Quarterback threw his first 2 interceptions of the season, our Ace 50 50 50 47 47 47 47 Runningback was held to 27 yards & our very stout defense at times was nonexistent.
To the Great White Apes we tip our hats to you for making us looking at times like a Bot team.
Now we will pick ourselves up & prepare for the Drinkers, management has purchased 100 cases of Guinness to be delivered 5 hours before our match in the hopes we might find the Drinkers ... over oiled for our game.

Today marks another milestone in the history of the Devil Dolphins franchise, as we'll be playing the first playoff home game ever as part of the Wildcard Round of the S72 postseason.

After the expected loss against the Magpies, where we again weren't able to stop the onslaught that is the BobBoy's offense, we closed the season with 5 wins in a row. Thus we held on to the premier spot in the AC East and will enter the postseason as the #4 seed, because we were not able to overtake the Blue Bunnies despite winning against them in week 11 of the regular season.

Now we'll meet the Dolphins Pisa who joined the playoffs as second placed team from the AC South behind the Blue Bunnies. We have only played them once in a meaningful game since the Devil Dolphins were formed in S66, having won our encounter in S69 20:6 on the road.

We hope that we're able to keep the stretch of winning the wildcard games going. After that it will be much harder to advance, as the teams waiting in the Divisional Round are the Magpies and the Litany Zone... both being unbeaten in the regular season. So it'll be tough to repeat our experience from last season when we advanced to the championship game. But we'll see... first we have to win today, no?

Good luck to everyone

It was an amazing experience on Saturday. It took quite a long time for the offense to get going, but when it did the squad surrounding QB Richard Sinapati immediately started scoring. It was a little worrying when they failed to convert 4th down from the opposing 2 yard line, and, too, that they only scored fieldgoals in the first half.

But that changed in the second half. The scoring started with a phenomenal 53 yard punt return touchdown by RB Matteo Sauer, then TE Mohammad Scholz caught a pass and carried it 95 yards into the endzone on the very next possession. Kicker Somchai Sarit kicked a FG the next time they had the ball, and to exhaust all possibilities to score Star-OLB Rami Mahmoud caught an interception and took it into the endzone, making it 23:0 in the third quarter alone.

Now we'll meet old friends again in the divisional playoff round, as the Litany Zone is awaiting. It'll be a tough game, as they come in unbeaten and our last encounters don't give much reason to hope that we'll have a chance. But we'll give our best.

And maybe we can surprise them a little

Man... to be honest: It is getting tiresome to constantly be beaten by long passes while not getting first downs ourselves

EDITH: Yes, I do see that I complain about a thing that worked to our benefit in the game before. And yes, I do see that all three long TD-passes happened on plays that were defended with only one safety guarding the deep backfield... something that obviously does not work with the players that we have for that position. So we have to re-think our approach on the defensive side of the ball.

What's so mindnumbing is the fact that it takes so awefully long to get the players up to par with the good teams. And I truly wonder how managers like TricTrac and BobBoys Dad are able to get players to ratings like 4.5* at the age of 23 or 24 years.

But be it as it may... we have now 2 months to think and act about these things and then try again...

Good luck to everyone in the next round, and congrats to TricTrac, of course
