We hope everyone had a good draft?

Ours was pretty neat: We got our #1 draft choice in rounds 1 AND 2.

Our first pick is a 19yo talented LB with two traits, but limited experience. This we have to get up to speed as fast as possible. The second pick was a 21yo very talented, strong and intelligent Pass-Blocker-TE... although sadly already capped yellow on AGI at under 35.

Pick 3 isn't that bad, either, as we got a 23yo Sticky Fingers WR with a lot of talent and intelligence... but again not much EXP.

They'll all play a lot this season, as we're not expecting to be anywhere near as competitive as we were the last two seasons.

There are still some tough decisions to be made about how to attack the QB-situation. Jiang Ang has been the back-up to Richard Sinapati and occasional trick-play-weapon for quite a few seasons now. But we are wondering if maybe 23yo Romuald Schulz, who we drafted in S71, could be the better option to play... as he could gain experience and become a truly great QB over the next seasons.

Also some new players came in and must find their proper role in the team, so it'll be tough to make some hay this season. But we'll see.

Good luck, and have a good season everyone

Ice Machine handed us our first loss of the season yesterday, a crushing home defeat that kicked morale all the way down to 71 by most players involved in the game. Holy smokes…

I have to confess that I'm having trouble to find the motivation to keep going with this game. Maybe it's because we get beaten badly in a friendly game by the reigning champion right now, and the Magpies just scored another TD after an interception to make it 49 points for them... to zero points for us... halfway through Q3. But it's not only that, but the game yesterday, too, which we lost in the final minutes as well.

It's mindnumbing to constantly look for details to get better, and it's even harder here than it is over in RZA. Given the fact that we even get beaten by teams that just joined this game, something that the Devil Dolphins NEVER could, I'm seriously doubting if we'll ever be able to be more than just another opponent on any given teams' way to a championship.

I don't know. It just feels that even 10 seasons in we're irrelevant still...

Maybe it's time to try a different approach

"it's even harder here than it is over in RZA"

Your right, RZA is WAY easier than RZC, all teams have the salary cap which adds a layer of difficulty. I must confess I like the salary cap keeping all teams equal, an even starting point. It gives your playbook much more impact, the players you choose more weight & the training more important.

Situational football, ball control, field position, try to limit mistakes, old time football. I'm not going for 4th downs unless absolutely necessary (just because it's a computer game & it says I 'should' make a 1st), a failed 4th down attempt IS a turnover (turnover = mistake), not doing long field goals & giving up that field position by giving my opponent a shorter field.

Any short comings you think you may have simply must be A) Players you hire B) How your training C) Playbook.
Not sure what else there is to affect game performance.

Ancient NFL proverb: Offense sells tickets, Defense wins Championships

Best of luck the rest of the way

Probably. First and foremost try to limit the extent of friendly games impacting my mood on a friday evening when they mean absolutely nothing in big picture at all

But one approach could be cutting down the roster drastically and concentrate on fewer players in making them better right now instead of constantly looking for the possibilities the next season may bring.

A thing that I realized will not work here is the approach "let the back-ups play the easy games to gain EXP", like I do over in RZA. It just takes way too long for them to get the experience that way, as there aren't that many games to play for them (e. g. no Supercup), and on the other hand the first string players somehow don't develop right, too.

And seeing the Magpies demolish us like that yesterday makes me believe that they played their starters even in a friendly game... which makes sense to me now.

That's another one that haunts me, especially the ball control thing. The playbook is definitely not great and will need to be revisited soon.

Maybe I find a few hours between christmas and new year to meditate over a new one...

The Devil Dolphins secured a tough road win today at the Blue Bunnies. The Defense stepped up big in the game and kept the home team to 6 points. The Offense did not explode, but it was enough to win this one by one touchdown.

There was some shake-up in the organization after recent disappointments: 8 players were fired, and word is that 8 more are on notice. All the while 5 new players were signed that make the squad younger while bringing in more experience.

Beyond that some perseonell decisions were made, most prominently continuing the season (and probably beyond) with young QB Romuald Schulz as the first string trigger man. He was drafted for exactly this situation, to build around him when he enters his prime. And although he did not play all too well today, he did provide for the only touchdown in the game today when he connected with WR Ewald Schneider, another draftee, in the closing minutes of Q2.

It’ll be interesting how this all works out

Merry Christmas to everyone
